Dog Daze of Summer

Y'all probably have noticed the GoPro photos going on the blog lately but I finally took the camera out into some waves and took some video. Waves were around waist high with not many people out but got about five minutes of footage before my battery died (typical) and I got back into the water. Below is the video. Its nothing spectacular but worth a watch. I recommend watching in on the Vimeo website so you can watch it in HD. Just click the HD button below and it will show you how to get to the site. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!

Finally, Some Waves

Fun waves today. Got to the washout a little after 6 this morning and whipped out my camera to take some pre-sunrise shots and realized I didn't have my memory card! Still got to surf before work on some clean waves with a little bit of size. Went back out this afternoon and took a few quick photos from the street. Waves weren't as good but still some fun ones coming through. Enjoy.

Don't tell anyone, there were some fun clean small waves yesterday. Not really forecasted. Not many people out. Enjoy!

Happy International Surf Day!

I went down to the washout to take a few pictures of how flat it is on this cool day. Brought my longboard and enjoyed some semi clean knee high waves for an hour or so. No, the waves weren't good but I got wet and enjoyed this day the best I could. Sometimes the waves don't have the be good to enjoy yourself in the water. Oh, and happy summer too!

SAVE SURF BAR!!

For everyone who has ever had a Painkiller, Cheesesteak, Wings, Beer or just relaxed and listened to some good music at Surf bar!!! Surf Bar has also been a part of the local surf scene and was even one of the sponsors for Waves In Our Pocket. Lets help Hank and Perry out!

***Taken from The Charleston City Paper***

Folly Beach barflies and musicians are upset after hearing that the Surf Bar may close. Word spread this week of an unexpected shut-down after friends and supporters created a Facebook page titled “Save Surf Bar.” The page showed a photo of Surf Bar proprietors Perry Darby and Hank Cagle at the bar mixing drinks. A statement at the top of the page read, “Without Hank and Perry, the Surf Bar will never be the same. Let’s band together to show our support so that they will be able to renew their lease.”
According to Darby, their lease with building owner Michael O’Shaughnessy lapsed earlier in the spring, but Darby and Cagle weren't in a rush to renew it. “We thought that we had a good working relationship with the landlord, and there’s no denying that the Surf Bar is a successful business,” Darby says. “We initially had a one-year lease, and then we had a three-year lease. We just assumed that we’d get around to signing the next lease sometime soon.”
After hearing some disturbing chatter, Cagle contacted O’Shaughnessy. According to Darby, O’Shaughnessy confirmed he was not offering the owners a new lease. “We’ve always paid our rent on time, so there’s no dispute over money,” Darby says.
Darby believes the situation is still very much up in the air. They have no lease, but they have no deadline to vacate, either. “If the landlord came back to us and said, ‘I’ve had a change of heart’ and offered us another lease, I think we’d take it. Otherwise, we’ll probably leave sometime soon," he says. "I wish I could tell my staff, customers, and friends what’s going on, but I really don’t know right now. I’ve had people approaching me on the street and hugging me and even crying. You get all the good and bad emotions, the encouragement and a little bit of anger and all that. I think whatever good or bad falls out of this will fall out.”
O’Shaughnessy was unavailable for comment .
Darby and Cagle have run the cozy, rustic tavern and restaurant at 103 East Cooper Ave. for four years. Situated a half-block off of Center Street, the Surf Bar has developed a loyal local clientele and established itself as one of the more popular non-touristy hangouts on the island. They serve a full menu of food, beer, and specialty cocktails, and they regularly book local and musical acts. Charleston groups Dangermuffin and Guilt Ridden Troubadour regularly play at the establishment.
Darby says that Dangermuffin’s unplugged side project AcousticMuffin is still solid for a performance at the venue on Sun. June 17, and Guilt Ridden Troubadour’s weekly Wednesday jam session is still on for next week.

Beryl Leftovers

Fun waves at the washout yesterday afternoon. Didn't make it up early yesterday morning but heard the sunrise session was pretty nice and bigger than the waves in the pictures. These were taken between 1 and 2, hope everyone got some fun ones yesterday...

Sorry, no photos..

Monday morning. 7:30 A.M.

Sorry everyone but I didn't get any photos from Sunday, the best day of surf we've had since last hurricane season. A few months ago I agreed to shoot a wedding for a couple that would be getting married on April 22. At the time it seemed like no big deal but of course April 22 was one of the better days we have seen in a while. I did get to surf between the ceremony and reception but was not able to snap off a few photos. The photo above was taken this morning with long lefts rolling into the pier in the stomach high range. I had to work at ten but still caught a few fun ones at the pier this morning. For photos from yesterday go check out Mike C's page here . Hope everyone got some good ones these last few days.

Saturday Waves

Lots of Water.

Small mushy waves yesterday morning with super high full moon tides. Probably a little too much water. Everyone had to bust out the wetsuits again with air temps in the lower 50's yesterday morning. I took a few pictures, but mainly wanted to surf the few hours of waves we got.

Sunrise at the Pier.
