Ice Cold Surf

I hope everyone enjoyed, or at least survived, this crazy weather we've been having. I was in West Ashley all day yesterday and made it out to Folly this afternoon. I was actually looking at renting a place on 11th block and ventured down to the washout after to see a few guys heading out. The walkovers were still icy and the air was still very cold. It was fun for a day, but I am over this weather. Looks like plenty of people were interested in renting this place so Im not feeling too confident in getting the place. I would be so stoked if I could get a place that close to the washout and be back out on Folly! Looking for a pet friendly 1 or 2 BR on the beach so email me if anyone knows of anything the next few months for a long term rental. Its tough to find anything. Ok, heres a few from the 5 minutes I could stand today. My hands were frozen.

Mavericks Invitational!

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen a few shots from last friday of Mavericks from my brother. He lives in SF and made the wise decision to head down to Half Moon Bay for the day and witness this massive swell from the channel in one of a handful of the boats allowed out there. He said they trolled in a circle the whole time out there and from the video he sent me it looked like he was getting knocked around a good bit out there. He was on the boat for the 2 semis and the final so you can see the texture from the south winds that came later in the day. Heres a few more from his point and shoot camera. I wish I had the opportunity to be out there with my gear, the shots from this day are amazing! Looks like we may have some waves late in the week. It will be cold.

Sunrise Session

I decided to mix it up and change a few things on the blog so sorry if the bright white threw you off. I woke up and got out to the beach early today hoping for some clean little waves. I wanted to shoot in the water but the waves were a little small and inconsistent so I messed around on the rocks and shot the small crew of people that were out. Waves were clean and about thigh high, nice for a sunrise log session. There was also some weird fog in the area (surprise) but I got a few good ones.

Pier Sunset

I went out for a longboard session at the washout last night and managed to snag a few thigh high little peelers. It was nice to get a longboard session to myself and get a few long rides. Surfing is therapy. The sunset was shaping up to be a good one so I hoped out of the water and ran down to the pier to get a few sunset/long exposure shots. I havent done these in a while but I really enjoy setting up the tripod, setting the exposure time to 20+ seconds, and seeing what comes out!

Sunday Sunrise

Woke up and made it out to the beach right before a beautiful sunrise. Maybe it was beautiful because you could actually see the sun after a few days of clouds. Waves were already kinda closing out with the outgoing tide. Every now and again a bigger fun one would come through. I am starting to watermark my photos again after not doing it for a little because of computer storage and laziness (I admit it). Heres a few from this morning...

Yesterday!

The cold water is here (upper 40's) and the fog is still around. I tried to shoot in the water yesterday and it was a bit unorganized so I was getting pretty beat up and pretty cold and didnt really get much water shots. I did a drift to the south, got out and sat down for a second to try and warm up and head back out. I got cold and decided to just call it a day and take some shots from the beach. Fog rolled in and out all day and it was tricky to get some good shots. Oh, well. Heres a few B&W ones...

Sunday Fog

I missed the tide push this morning because I'm an idiot and thats what idiots do. I guess it was good this morning, better than forecasted. I got out around noon and the tide was a little high so I decided to surf for a little. I surfed for a few hours and decided to try and take some photos in the crazy fog.
